NEW Missouri Booster Seat Law went into effect August 28, 2006!

A new Missouri law went into effect on August 28, 2006. The new law says that your child MUST be in a booster seat if they are ages 4-7 years old, unless they are 80 pounds or 4'9" tall.

The fine for violating this law is $50 plus court costs, which far exceeds the cost of many booster seats.

Please call Melissa at 573-346-3604 if you have any questions regarding the NEW BOOSTER SEAT LAW!

Each year the Camdenton Police Officers set goals and objectives for the year. In December 2001, Chief Laura Wright and Officer Ben Rector formulated a goal involving “Occupant Safety” that focused on the proper use and installation of Child Safety Seats for the year 2002. For 2003, 2004 & 2005, the goal required tracking the amount of Child Safety Seat Checks that the Department conducts.

For 2007 the goal will track the amount of seatbelt and child safety seat violations written by the Officers compared to 2006. The department will continue it's efforts to increase safety issues involving Occupant Protection.

2007 Goal -

Sponsor one (1) 32 hour Safe Kids Child Safety Seat Technician Course

Sponsor two (2) Child Safety Seat Inspection Checkpoints

Continue to offer appointments for Child Safety Seat Inspections

Continue Education Campaign for Parents, Caregivers, & Children

Track number of seatbelt and child safety seat violations written by the Officers

Track the Progress of the  Occupant Protection thru quarterly seatbelt surveys

No Tolerance for Seatbelt & Child Safety Seat Violations from Officers

Until I attended the Child Safety Seat Technician Training in May 2002, I thought my daughter’s Child Safety Seat was installed correctly. Little did I know that there is a lot to learn about Child Safety Seats. After attending my training, I immediately installed my Child Safety Seat properly. In July 2002, I was involved in a Motor Vehicle Accident. I had my daughter (10 months old at the time of the accident) with me. Her Child Safety Seat passed the one inch test (the Child Safety Seat moves NO MORE THAN one inch at the belt path). After impact when I was able to get her out of the Child Safety Seat, the seat was moving 3 to 4 inches each way. The Vehicle’s Seat Belt System (Webbing) was stretched on impact, causing the Child Safety Seat to loosen. If the seat moves 3 to 4 inches before impact, after impact it could be moving 10-12 inches, causing your child to be thrown around in the vehicle and possibly injuring other occupants. Your children CAN BE seriously or fatally injured. This is a VERY educational program. My job is NOT to write tickets for improper use, my job is to help you keep your child safe!  Please take the time to call us, 573-346-3604.”
